JNP Coffee, founded by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian, a Burundian native with an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School, is a socially conscious specialty coffee brand empowering rural Burundian farmers through its Dushime program, which offers 20-40 cents per pound as a second-payment incentive for high-quality coffee. Operating in Burundi’s Muyinga province, a less-developed but fertile region with high elevations ideal for unique arabica cultivars, JNP manages a processing station in Ngozi and recently expanded to include farmers from Gashoho, totaling over 2,000 contributors. Their Bavyeyi coffee, named to honor hardworking farming parents, undergoes a meticulous 20-30 day natural drying process in Ngozi’s cool climate, yielding a balanced and crisp cup profile.
